Perri K. McCary (PK) has a long-distinguished career that spans journalism, advocacy, marketing, information technology management, business development, media management, communication, and leadership (not exclusively). An author and journalist whose work is committed to helping a new generation understand peace and being peacemakers, her rich portfolio includes nine books which she has written or contributed to, including the famed Black Bible Chronicle Series.
She is Marketing Director at United Colors Education Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to equipping children with the skills and confidence to succeed in an ever-changing world. Through the provision of innovative education, personalized learning approaches, advocacy, supportive environment, and a holistic approach to education that goes beyond academics, focusing on development in its entirety, where every child’s potential is nurtured, celebrated.
As Marketing Director, for close to a decade, PK develops and implements the organization’s brand strategy and campaigns. She also oversees the entire marketing department of United Colors Education Center, assessing and creating marketing plans, marketing strategy, and conducting competitor research for the organization’s services and products.
Before joining United Colors Education Center, PK was the Founding Executive Director of PK and Company, a multi-service organization dedicated to marketing, public relations, educational curriculum design and implementation, editing and writing services (not exclusively).
Since 1983, PK has been planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating the organization's day-to-day operations and ensuring that all operations of the company are carried out in accordance with applicable laws governing private organizations. She also developed the budget and oversaw the prudent financial management of the organization's funds.
In 2010, PK co-founded Think Peace International Inc, an organization that brings together artists, teachers, and social activists to create cultures of peace, justice, and healing for the children of the world. With a goal to share what works in the areas of peacemaking, peacebuilding, and peacekeeping, PK creates awareness about the United Nation's International Day of Peace and works to ensure that local communities celebrate Peace Day to inspire a new generation of peace thinkers, teachers, and activists.
Prior to Think Peace International, PK was Host/Founder and Producer of Think Peace Radio Network, a youth centered digital podcast station committed to building peace around the world. Through her peace journalism platform, PK promoted peace by providing a platform for different perspectives and voices. This proactive approach to peacebuilding examines the causes of conflict, exposed violent groups' attempts to naturalize meaning and promote violence and look for ways to encourage dialogue and explore solutions.
To inform a largest number of people impacted by conflict about its realities, give peacemakers a voice and make peace initiatives and non-violent solutions more visible and viable, PK was Producer and Host of The Peace Hour, a magazine formatted show with local, national, and international guests.
Cognizance that the news tends to focus on negative events and conflicts, which can create a sense of fear and mistrust among different groups, The Peace Hour under PK’s leadership promoted peace by highlighting positive stories of cooperation and collaboration.
A Charter Member of United Religions Initiative (URI), PK served as their Global Council Trustee Secretary for seven years.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in communications from the University of Phoenix, and an associate degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Houston Texas.
